> I am trying to identify "Newton, New York." My gggrandfather, whaling master
John KEENAN, was born and died in Watervliet NY. However I have received
information from one of the whaling museums in New Bedford that there was, in
1848, a whaler named John KEENAN who was from "Newton, New York." Can any one
tell me about this location. I cannot find any other reference to it. I am
wondering how close it was to Watervliet.

I have an ancestor who was born in "Newtown", New York. I think this
may be in Saratoga County, but I'll have to search through my notes to
figure out why I think this! Neither "Newton" nor "Newtown", New York
are listed in the Atlas I usually use. I must have found it somewhere else.
Anyway, I don't know how close this "Newton/Newtown" is to
Watervliet, but Saratoga County is adjacent to the north of Albany Co.

Hope this helps!

Diane
