Cliff,
Thank you so much for the information on Green Island. I live on a small
island like that too so I understand how that could happen very easily. I
am going to try writing to the town historican and see if perhaps she might
know what churches were in the area at the time and where the records might
have been kept and also about the obit. Thanks to everyone for all of your
help!!

Subject: [NYALBANY] Green Island and other Hudson River islands

Green Island is no longer an island, as has already been pointed out. Most
of the islands in the Albany area are gone. The dredgings to deepen the
Hudson, in order to allow international shipping, had to go somewhere. They
were put between islands and the river shore. Green Island is north of
Albany, and is rather near Lock 1, the beginning of the Erie Barge Canal.
Dredgings may have been put next to it, although a Green Island official
could not confirm that a few months ago. In fact, he disagreed with me
saying that Green Island IS an island. When questioned on this point, he
told me that there is a stream that cuts off the island. However, that is
not true on any of my maps, and I have not seen such a stream.
