Kevin - My understanding is that the Cohoes city directories start in 1870.
It was included as a section of the Troy directory, as you were assuming. I
have not found a Cohoes directory for that time period, though I certainly
would like to find that they exist. Perhaps someone knows something more on
this subject.

My Cohoes families are an Irish Catholic TAYLOR family starting around 1840
and a German Catholic BECK family starting arounf 1870.
