Hello, Kathy,
The cost of the marriage record will still be $22, with or without the
state's number. I would like to think that the order time will be shorter
with a higher rate, but if it is not you will wait six months or more.
If you have someone walk the required form complete with the state
number to a certain office in Albany, the time is a couple of weeks.
The state number can only be learned by reading the indexes on
microfiche in secure locations in Albany, Syracuse or NYC. I understand that
even with the number, acquired from one of the locations, if the request is
entered by mail the wait is still months long.
Today's mail brought some rewarding certificates for clients. The
certificates had the marriage return as well at the license application.
That doesn't always happen, though.
The application will include the names and birthplaces of the couples'
parents, as well as their own.
I see that you have a big stack of Schenectady names in your researching
list. If those are recent family names, then you might like to know that
Schenectady City Hall does provide a photocopy of an original certificate
instead of the dreadful modern typed form.
