Hi Gang,
Hope you all enjoyed Thanksgiving! We did!
I am hoping that some kind soul can help me. I have looked everywhere
for my great-grandparents. On my grandfather's marriage license, 1930
Their names are listed as Bradley Walker and Martha Ann Sheridan. I
am not sure if they were living in Albany with my grandfather by then.
but my aunt remembers them living on Allen Street in 1940's. I have checked
census for Michigan, where my grandfather was born and also the
ones for New York. NOTHING! I still have not been able to get his
birth record, Michigan looked twice, and I rented the film from the
FHC. NOTHING! I check the 1930 city directories. Nothing. (1900,
1910, 1920, 1930, all census checked MI and NY)
I am going to Dutchess County on Friday, as the student's at
Vasser College did some poking around the poor house, and they
are helping us get to know who is buried there. The records are
only numbered stones, and the index has just become available
this past summer. So, now I know where he is buried, and wanted
to give him some kind of life story, only I never met him, he died
nine years before I was born, and he was separated from the
family while in the 1940's. I would also like to know if he had
any brothers or sisters. (rumor has it they had 11 children in the
family)
Would it be possible for someone in Albany to look in the city
Directories for them? It would have to be in the 1940-1950 time
frame, as my grandmother moved the family to Californian in
1953, loosing all contact with the family. My grandfather died
in behind Marist College, in November 1950, I have been looking
for info on him since 1994, and haven't gotten to far. My dad's
family didn't even know where he was buried, as grandma
drove from Albany to ID his body, and had no means to bury
him, so he was buried in the County owned cemetery in Millbrook.
It took me awhile to even find out that information.
I am driving up from Long Island, and the student's are giving
a presentation on Friday at 7:00 pm, so I am hoping to find
something more on him when I get up there. I have checked
all possible paper trails with this family, any ideas?
Thanks for listening to me ramble....
Terre
