Please note that the SSDI does NOT have the place of death and sometimes the
date is not exact. ie: If someone lives their entire life in Albany but they
happen to go to CA to visit a child and die there, the SSDI will have their
last residence and benefit being Albany. I have found numerous times where
the place of death does not match up to place of residence. They could even be
local and have gone to Schenectady for the day. As to the date, sometimes
they are a few days off for whatever reason. What the SSDI gives us is a pointer
in the right direction. If the place of residence is Albany, chances are
fairly good that there may be a death notice and/or obituary in one of the
newspapers and that may (but not always) give the place of death. It can be
frustrating locating where someone died and getting a death certificate for
documentation, but that's what makes genealogy fun.

Try the SS death index for date & place of death.
