While doing research on the surname O'BRIEN from Troy, I discovered an 1859
murder that occurred in the Village of Cohoes involving a Michael O'BRIEN.
Michael was accused and convicted of the murder of his wife, Ellen, in their
home on Canal Street (now Main Street).

In doing further research on the case, I obtained copies of newspaper
accounts and court records. I am in the process of writing, not about the
case itself, but about how it captivated my interest and led me down an
unexpected path in my genealogy research.

I have extracted the names that appear in the sources used and will be happy
to make those names available to those who are interested in having them.
With only a couple of exceptions, the people named were residents of Cohoes
(to the best of my knowledge).

Please e-mail me at: and I will send you the names or
answer any questions that I can. Please note that ONLY off-list requests
will be honored.

Thank you.
