Hi Chris,
I put the 2-cd set ALLEGANY CO & ITS PEOPLE in JPG
format because it is the universal standard for
viewing pictures.
A program called a "PHOTO EDITOR" is required to view
all pictures on computers. These photo editors allow
you to view, change, print, and process photos. The
program ACROBAT that you mentioned is a sub-program of
the ADOBE PHOTO EDITOR.
The program IMAGING (by Kodak) is included in the
Windows-98 bundle of programs. Very simple to get to
and very easy to use.
However Windows-95 apparently did not have a built-in
photo editor. However this does NOT elimenate them
from viewing pictures.
There are many PHOTO-EDITING programs available that
will run on Windows-95. A couple of photo editor
programs are ADOBE 2.0, PHOTO PLUS 4.0, PRESTO PAGE
MANAGER (by Kodak), and THUMBS PLUS. Although there
are many formats for photos, all of these will process
JPG.
You can also down load photo-editing programs from the
internet. Some are free-ware others are share-ware
programs.
If you buy a scanner to copy photos of your
ancestors,, the photo editor is automatically included
in the programs to run the scanner and process the
pictures.
It is a wonderful thing in genealogy, to not only have
information about our ancestors but also be able to
look at pictures of them. I have scanned in several
5-generation pictures for some of my friends. I have
even scanned in old tin-type photos and repaired bad
spots in them.
I hope this helps answer some of your questions.
