KENNETH ARNOLD

Nine months to the day after he suffered severe injuries when accidentally struck in the head by a piece of farm machinery upon which he was working, Kenneth ARNOLD, 20, of Houghton, R.D., died following a fatal relapse at the home of his parents.

Kenneth, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Guy ARNOLD of Houghton and former residents of Fillmore, was enjoying his usual health since his apparent recovery from the accident, August 13, 1940. At that time he was a patient at the Fillmore Hospital for several weeks. He complained Monday about not feeling well but little thought was given to his condition. However, Tuesday morning as Mr. ARNOLD went to Kenneth's room, he found his son unconscious. A doctor was summoned but medical aid was futile and he passed away within a few hours. According to his parents, medical examiners attributed his death to a pressure of the brain undoubtedly caused from the severe skull fracture received nine months ago.

"Ken" as he was better known, was an outstanding youth, liked and respected by young and old. He was graduated from Fillmore Central School in 1939 and served as the president of his senior class. He was prominent in all school activities, an apt scholar, and served as president of the Alumni Association of Fillmore High for one year.

Following his graduation he was employed by the J.W. STOCKWELL Co. of Fillmore. It was while at work there that he suffered the blow caused as a lever fastened to a high tension spring on a piece of machinery upon which he was working, accidentally gave way and struck him in the forehead with terrific force.

Funeral services were conducted at the Houghton Church with the Rev. E.W. BLACK and the Rev. Harold WASS officiating. The high school classes of Fillmore Central School were dismissed at noon and a great number of students and faculty attended the rites in a body. Burial was made in Pine Grove Cemetery, Fillmore.

Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Guy ARNOLD, a sister, Eileen, a senior of Fillmore Central School, and two brothers, Delwyn and William, at home.
