Dear List,
First please forgive my ignorance for asking the following questions but
I really don't know the answers. The only Family History Center (which was
in the country literally) that I have ever visited consisted of one room
about 8x10 with two computers, some CDs, a microfiche that was ancient (the
kind I use to use for drawings but ours made copies for us while this one
didn't), and about 10 films. Please will anyone that can answer my
questions? Are the records at the Family History Centers copies of the
actual records or just indexes? Can I call ahead and order the films and pay
by credit card? IF the Family History Centers did not exist, how would you
go about finding a death certificate in the New York Five Boroughs?
