Christine,
I received your E-mail and I think we may be on to something. Do you know
the parents of your Andrew Patrick Egan?? I do not know if patrick had any
siblings and I am trying to find out. I have written to the New York
Archives in an Atempt to find out. I will let you know the outcome. My
great-grandfather James egan was born here in Midleton Co.Cork in 1836 that
I know fact, Fact he married hayes woman in 1850's and went to America,
Patrick was born there in 1869 and died in 1915, James came back and married
my Great-Grandmother in 1885 and had my Grandfather in the same year, He was
an only child, but always said he had Step-Brothers and a Step-Sister in
America. We didnt know where until I got Patricks records from the British
Government Records Dept.( Patrick joined an Irish Regemient in Wales of all
places in 1914, having been born in America Brooklyn).
Its a puzzle and I will get back to you on it as I hope we are on to
something, although Frank i am not so sure of. But we dont know.
Is there any census that I could look at?? for the year Patrick was born??
at least I am sure that they were there then in that year. We could work
from that and see if we have an Andrew Patrick in it. If he were Patricks
brother then he would have been 11 years his senior, which would match in
dates. I am almost sure that James wife was pregenant when they letf
Ireland, or at least just had the baby, as I suspect that this would be part
of the reason that they had to go to America in the first place, only a
guess on my part. James was one of 10 children himself and I know some of
them at least one anyway did come to America, as some of his first cousins
did go to Australia, and I am in contact with the decendants of them.
Let me know if you get any vibes from that and if you have your Andrews
Partents names.
Regards
Shirley
