How much of what you know of your uncle Ed, do you know to be fact and
how much of the information is what you have "heard" or has come as part of family
stories? I suggest you read some history of WWII. Much of what we "hear" has been
embellished. Few if, any people were exterminated, in concentration camps. Most
deaths occured after mid 1944 from starvation and sickness, typhus transmitted by
body lice being the most common. Poland was invaded by Germany in Sept. 1939, but
Russia was also an allie of Germany at the time. The purpose of concentration
camps was to supply slave labor for both German and Soviet war machines. The Soviet
union has held POWs for this purpose even until today. A great deal of information
put out during WWII was propaganda designed to demonize the enemy of both sides.
Uncle Ed may have died in a concentration camp, but it may have been latter than 1940,
or he may have been shipped off to Russia. Do you have any idea what concentration
camp he was sent to. Many have survivor groups. Keep in mind uncle Ed, had he lived
would be 81 or 82 years old today. Someone out there (still alive) may have known
him, or known of him.
