I go to Holy Cross a few times a year, and I have never had a bad
experience -- but I drive, and enter into the (pearly) gates that
surround the cemetery. The worst experience of which I'm aware was
had by my two sisters, when they visited without me (one of the only
times they did this). They were confronted by a pack of dogs (yes,
DOGS) which scared the hell out of them. When they finally found the
security guard, he was ASLEEP in his little truck!!

The neighborhood is far from the worst in NYC. It is fairly well
kept, but I would not venture there after dark, and I would
recommend not going alone -- especially if it requires walking a
great distance through the neighborhood. This is much more true for
women than men (sorry, a fact of life).

Do not avoid Holy Cross Cemetery due to fear. With a small degree of
cautiousness, anyone can visit this beautiful cemetery where so many
of our Irish ancestors rest in peace.

Best regards,
John
