Joyce,
Are you sure it was a fireman from a FD?In the list of old time
occupations,a fireman is listed as:
FIREMAN--inspected for,and removed explosive gasses underground
in mining or stoked the boilers on ships and locomotives.
This was also an occupation listed for my husbands g.grand-father
and we thought fireman as we think of them today,this was a
shock to learn.I just wanted to add this,so you keep avenues open,and don't
hit another wall.
