Obituaries
LOSEE, Margaret
Margaret Losee, 65, widow of Frank Losee and a resident of Brooklyn for
many years, died Thurday at her home, 391 Parkside avenue. Funeral
services will be held this evening at her late home. Interment tomorrow
private.
BARNETT, S.H.
Brooklyn Lodge No 30, Theatrical Mechanical Association - Brothers: You are
requested to attend funeral services for our late brother, Samuel H.
Barnett, at Ocean Ave and Avenue R, tomorrow, Sunday, at 2PM.
GRAEPEL, Henry
Henry Graepel, who died on Thursday at his home, 25 Casplan Street,
Maspeth, was born in Germany 53 years ago and is survived by his widow,
Katherine; six sons, Fredrick, Henry, George, William, August and Charles.
The funeral will be held tomorrow at 2 PM, the Rev. Williamn H. Pretzsch od
Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Interment in the family plot at Mount
Olivet Cemetery under direction of John Weigand, of 768 Fresh Pond Road.
BETTS, Annie D.
Annie Loomis Bretts, wife of Morris Betts and the daughter of the late
Harvey and Marie Loomis, died Thursday at her home, 180 8th Ave. The
funeral will be held Monday at 10:30 AM from her late home. Mrs Betts had
lived in Brooklyn for many years and was well known in her late
neighborhood. Interment private.
ROGERS, Geo. W.
George W. Rogers, 71, a life long resident of Sayville, died Tuesday at his
home on Green Ave. that town. He formerly conducted a stationary and
confectionary store in the town, but had been retired for many years. He is
survived by three sons, Robert, Daniel and Harry Rogers; a daughter, Mrs.
Fred Hambyn and a brother, Captain Thomas Rogers. Funeral services were
held Wednesday afternoon at his late home. Interment at Union Cemetery.
DUGAN, Mary A.
Mary Ann Dugan, 88, died Wednesday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William
B Riblett, 18 Covert Place, Flushing. She was a native of Philadelphia
where she lived until the death of her husband, Peter Dugan, about 15 years
ago. Funeral services were held yesterday morning at St Denis' R C Church,
Ardomore, Pa, where requiem mass was celebrated. Interment in the graveyard
of that church. Mrs. Dugan was christened in St Dennis' Church, and it had
always been her wish to buried near her husband.
KERBY, M.A.
Harriet A. Kerby, only daughter of Elsie C. and the late Major William
Kerby, died Thursday at her home, 403 Madison St. She was born Brooklyn,
and was a well-known teacher of music. She was a member of the Marcy Avenue
Baptist Church and was formerly a teacher in the Sunday School. She is
survived by her mother and her grandfather, Jessie A Crandall.
HORTON, G.D.D.
Grace Louise Duckworth Horton, wife of Chauncey T. Horton, of 251 West 81st
St, Manhattan, died Wednesday at Long Branch, HJ where she was visiting.
Funeral services were held this morning at the P E Church of All Angels,
Manhattan. Interment at Middletown, NY, Mrs Horton was a daughter of Mr.
And Mrs. Walter F. Duckworth and before her marriage, in 1911, lived with
her parents at 147 Berkeley Place, Brooklyn.
MACKIN, Harry J.
Harry Joseph Mackin, born in Manhattan, a son of the late P. Mackin and
Bridget McConville Mackin, died yesterday at his home, 370 Union Street. He
was a graduate of St Francis Xavier School, Manhattan, City College, and
Sacred Heart College of Denver. He was for 14 years connected with the
Tenement House Department in Brooklyn before he resigned to enter on his
architectural career. In the few years he had specialized in this
profession he had become regarded as one of the promising young men of his
line in the city. He was a member of Fort Greene Council, K and C, the Holy
Name Society of St. Agnes parish and Our lady of Mercy Dramatic Society. A
mass of requiem will be celebrated on Monday at 9:30 AM in St. Agnes Church.
He is survived by his widow, Mary M. McVey Mackin; sister, Mrs. Thomas York.
Interment will be made in the family plot at Holy Cross Cemetery, under
direction of William Dunigan & Son, of 201 Park Avenue.
HEITMANN, H.J.D.
Henry J D HEITMANN, who died on Thursday at his home, 1727 Linden St. was
born in Germany, July 5, 1854 and had been a resident of Brooklyn for 50
years. He was a member of the United Brewers Workers Union of Union of
America, and the Workmen's Sick and Death Benefit Society. For 20 years he
had been employed by H. B. Scharman & Son's Brewery. He is survived by his
widow, Elizabeth Klenner Heitmann; on son, Henry and 4 daughters, Carrie
Beck, Katherine Link, Lillian Blake, and Christina.Funeral services held
2:00 Monday at the his late home, the Rev Charles Phillipha officiating.
Interment Lutheran Cemetery.
NORTON, Thomas
Thomas Norton, who died yesterday after a brief illness, was born in
Ireland 70 years ago and came to Brooklyn 50 years ago. He was a member of
the St Augustine's R.C Chruch. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs
Elizabeth Maddock: one son, John ; 12 grandchildren and 2 great
grandchildren. The funeral wil be held Monday at 2:00 from the home of his
daughter, 169 5th Avenue, Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, under direction
of John J McGuire, of 168 4th Avenue.
PEARSALL, Wm. H.
William H. Pearsall, for many years an employee of the Public Service
Commission, died Thursday at his home, 948 Seventy-first He was born in
Manhattan and had lived in Brooklyn for seven years. He is survived by his
widow, Amanda Zwirz Pearsall; and one son, Richard, The funeral will be
held
tomorrow at 1:30 PM from his late home, thence to St. Phillip's Espiscopal
Church, where services will be held. Interment at Greenwood Cemetery.
CLEWS, Leta
Mrs James B. Clews, whose husband is a nephew of Henry Clews and member
of the banking firm of Henry Clews & Co., 15 Broad Street, Manhattan, died
at her summer home at Oyster Bay, Thursday night of heart trouble.
Before her marriage in 1908, Mrs Clews was Mrs. Leta Nichols Livingston.
She was the dauhgter of Washington Romaine Nichols and a great-granddaughter
od Gen. Benjamin Romaine, the Revolutionary prison ship martyr. Another of
her ancestors was Francis Nichols, a brother of Richard Nichols, New York's
first Colonial Governor.
Besides her husband, Mrs Clews leaves a daughter, Leta, 9 years old.
The funeral was held this afternoon.
WILKES, Joseph A.
Joseph A Wilkes, who retired in 1913 after more than half a century on
the stage as a tragedian, died of apoplexy yesterday at an actors' colony
near Union, NJ He was eight years old. He was born in Manhattan, and when
a boy began playing in melodrama. He rose steadly in his profession, and
for many years was under the management of A M Palmer. Later he played
under the management of David Belascio, the late Henry B. Haris and William
Harris. His last stage appearance was in "The Good Little Devil". He was a
member of the Edwin Forrest Lodge, Actors Order of Friendship and the
Actors' Sons of America. His wife died several years ago. The funeral will
be held on Monday from Campbell Funeral Church.

Anniversary mass was celebrated Wednesday morning for the repose of the soul
of Corporal George S. Corcoran, "killed in action" Aug, 16, 1918. May his
soul rest in peace.
