My experience has been that it takes about 5 months to get a copy of a death certificate from Albany. If you know the town in which the person died it would be much quicker to request a copy from the town clerk. I found some town clerk offices in Westchester were very helpful over the phone, even offering to check the death registers while I waited on the phone.
