I think that's what mine were too....and I think I still remember what it looked like. Unlike a regular key, this was round at the end with a little tab sticking out?

My metal skates (I'm talking about the late 50's) did have a key! You hung it around your neck with a piece of string and carried it while you were skating, in case your skates got a little loose. Then you would use the key to tighten them up.
