Obituaries
Patrick J. FORD, who died on Sunday at his home, 298 Adelphi st., was born
in Brooklyn, the son of the late Patrick and Odeal FORD, and is survived by
his widow, Agnes HANNING FORD; two brothers, Thomas and Paul; three sisters,
Mrs. James MOONEY, Mrs. Odeal OBRIEN and Ellen FORD. Mr. FORD was in the
employ of the Brooklyn Edison Company. Funeral Thursday at 9:30; thence to
Queen of All Saints where a solemn requiem mass will be celebrated. Interment
at Holy Cross Cemetery under direction of James A. MADDEN, 197 Franklin
avenue.
Delia MOORE died yesterday at her home, 439 Hicks street. She was born in
County Tipperary, Ireland, and was a resident of Brooklyn for twenty years.
She is survived by her husband, James MOORE, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral from John F. Fagans Mortuary Chapel, Henry and Warren streets,
Thursday at 9:30 A.M., with solemn requiem mass at St. Peters Church, Hicks
and Warren streets, at 10 A.M.
Franziska SCHMIDT, born in Germany eighty-one years ago and a resident of
Brooklyn for fifty years, died Sunday at her home, 2411 Silver street. She was
a member of St. Mathias Church. Funeral from the chapel of Peter J. GEIS, 88
Catalpa avenue, Wednesday at 2 P.M. She leaves one son, William, and three
daughters, Anna SCHILLER, Wilhelmina TROMMER and Frances GRAUER.
Robert J. SPENCER, born in the Twentieth Ward, Brooklyn, the son of the
late Robert J. and Bridget NASH SPENCER, died Monday at his home, 21
Cumberland street. He was a life resident of the Twentieth Ward and member of
the Sacred Heart R. C. Church, Clermont and Park avenues, where a solemn mass
of requiem will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 A.M. He was for the greater part
of his life an employe of the Bureau of Sewers and retired a few years ago. He
was a member of the Holy Name Society, John Loughlin Council, K of C., and the
Seawanhaka Democratic Club. The funeral will be held from the residence of his
niece, Mrs. Harry RUSSELL, 417 Throop avenue, Wednesday at 9:30 A. M. He was
the husband of the late Catherine DEEGAN SPENCER and is survived by one
daughter and a brother, John J. SPENCER. Interment will be at Holy Cross
Cemetery under the direction of William Dunigan & Son, 201 Park avenue.
Josephine HANGARTER died Sunday at her home, 116-08 Ninety-fifth avenue,
Richmond Hill. She was born in Brooklyn seventy-four years ago and is survived
by one daughter, Emma K. HAAS; three sons, Gustav, Andrew and John HANGARTER;
two brothers, Gustav and George, and one sister, Mrs. George MUENCH. Funeral
Wednesday at 8:30 A.M., thence to Most Holy Trinity Church, Montrose avenue,
where a solemn requiem mass will be celebrated. Interment at Calvary Cemetery
under direction of John G. Lutz & Sons, 507 Fairview avenue, Ridgewood.
John W. GARRETT, born in Brooklyn sixteen years ago, a son of Walter L. and
Sarah MURPHY GARRETT, died Monday at his home, 455 Park place. He is survived
by his parents, two sisters, Helen A. and Kathleen, and a brother, William
Norman GARRETT. The funeral will be held from his home, Thursday at 9 A. M.
with a solemn mass of requiem at St. Teresas Church, Classon avenue and
Sterling place, at 9:30. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery under
direction of Ladley and McMahon, 308 St. James place.
Clifford McDONOUGH, eighteen years old, born in Brooklyn, died Thursday at
Howard Beach. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Remsen McDONOUGH,
and one sister, Madeline. Funeral Wednesday at 2:30 P.M. from his late home,
251 Kincaid avenue, the Rev. David G. JASHEIMER officiating. Interment at Mt.
Olivet Cemetery under direction of Edward NEWMAN, 141 Nassau avenue.
Edward A. NELSON, a patrolman attached to Traffic A, Manhattan, for the
past seventeen years, died Sunday at his home, 836 Fifty-ninth street. He was
born in the Twelfth Ward, Brooklyn, thirty-eight years ago, a son of Pauline
and the late Martin NELSON, and is survived, in addition to his mother, by two
brothers, Harold C. and Clarence, a patrolman attached to the 31st Precinct,
Sheepshead Bay, and three sisters, Mrs. Frank MURPHY, Dorothy and Mabel
NELSON. For eight years he was stationed at the Old Dominion Line piers in
West Street and six months ago was assigned to a post outside of Wanamakers
department store. He was a member of Norsemans Lodge, 873 F. and A. M.; the
Police Square Club; Nassau Chapter, 109, R. A. M. and the Greater New York
Police Benevolent Association. Funeral services will be conducted at his late
home Tuesday by Norsemens Lodge, F. and A. M., and the funeral will take
place Wednesday at 2 P.M. with interment at Greenwood Cemetery.
Eugene TUNSTALL died Sunday at his home, 216 Sportsman avenue, Freeport. He
was born in New York, July 10, 1857 and had been a resident of Freeport
fifteen years. He is survived by his widow Margaret; three sons, George,
Edward and Rae; one brother, Mortimer and seven grandchildren. Funeral
services will be held Wednesday evening at 8 oclock at the parlors of Charles
MORTON, 578 Onderdonk avenue. Funeral Thursday at 10 A.M. with interment at
Lutheran Cemetery.
Dorothy Isabel MacNIFF died Friday at her home, 2621 Newkirk avenue. She
was born in Brooklyn sixteen years ago and is survived by her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. George MacNIFF and one brother, George, Jr. Funeral services were held at
her late home last night. The funeral was today at 10 A.M. with interment at
Cypress Hills Cemetery under the direction of Weigand Bros.
Michael HASSETT died yesterday at his home, 64 Van Dyke street. He was a
son of the late James and Mary COWHEY HASSETT. He is survived by his aunt,
Mrs. Ellen CAHILL and a cousin, Rose ARMSTRONG. The funeral will be held at
9:30 A.M. Thursday with requiem mass at the R. C. Church of the Visitation.
Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery under direction of Joseph REDMOND, 90
King street.
Lawrence PETERSEN died yesterday in his eighth year in St. Johns Hospital.
He is survived by his parents, John and Margaret MARTIN PETERSEN; two
brothers, John and Thomas; his grandfathers, John MARTIN and John PETERSEN. He
was a grandson of the late Catherine MARTIN and Mary PETERSEN. He was a member
of St. Aloysius Sodality and a pupil at the parochial school attached to the
R. C. Church of Our Lady of Victory where requiem mass will be celebrated at
9:30 A. M. Thursday. Interment will be at St. Johns Cemetery under direction
of the estate of D. J. Langton Sons, 74 Utica avenue.
