WOMAN DIES BY GAS, LEAVES SISTER NOTE

Tired of Illness, Miss SCHAPPNER’S Letter States

Police, called by neighbors, forced the way into the apartment of Miss Mary
PRESTEY, 50, at 51 Willow street, today and found her dead in the gas filed
(sic) kitchen. All gas stove burners were open, police said.
Beside the body was a note, addressed to a sister, Mrs. Catherine P.
SCHAFFNER, of Pleasantville, Pa. It stated Miss PRESTLEY was weary “of illness
and discomfort,” according to police. Until six months ago Miss PRESTLEY was a
stenographer for a local attorney.
