Hi folks,

Found my great grandfather Patrick McKeegan and his occupation listed
on the census is :Capt.of Lighter. His brother also found on a census is
listed as works on lighter.Can someone tell me what is a lighter? Does it have
something to do with a boat since he is Captain? Or is it a light house.Any
info would be appreciated,thanks.
