So many people have recently asked me
for urls for general genealogy sites that
I want to remind you-all of a couple of basics.

1) remember you can always google.

google.com

no matter if you lose all your favorites, you
can always find everything with google.

2) for specifically genealogical sites,

cyndislist.com

again, you can find out anything about doing
genealogical research by going there. It is
frequently updated. It does not have your ancestors;
it has HOW to find them whether on the Internet,
by writing or calling, or by going somewhere.
It leads people to our Brooklyn pages among
thousands of others.

3) Rootsweb.com

Do you go there often? A FREE site developed
by individuals, now HOSTED by ancestry but not
the same place at all. Just close the pop up boxes
from ancestry. That's what pays for the site.

At rootsweb you will see clickable entry points
for databases like ssdi and for worldconnect,
all free. You can find listserves like this one to
join, message boards to post to, thousands of
web sites for locations and surnames. I use it
daily.

Our wonderful Brooklyn pages started out on
rootsweb (and migrated to their own site when
they had the size and support to do so). You
can get yourself a free website there if you
wish, submit your entries to worldconnect,
find researchers in your localities.

Hope this helps someone.
