I apologize for thinking that you might have been venting. You say that you
purchased every list...I hate to ask such a silly question, but do you still
have them? Are they "copyrighted"? If not, we could begin to enter all of
the information from them into the new site I'm building for this.
Otherwise, we could ask the copyright holder for written permission to post
them online and, of course, state our source and respect any other of the
copyright holders requests.

If the pages were already digital we could copy and paste much of it. If
they're not (which is what I'm assuming) then maybe we could scan them in
and post them to the new site. Then, whenever someone has free time they
could take a page (1 image of 1 page) and index that page into the database
for ease of searching. :) If we also had purchaser information, date,
address, grave location, etc. we could enter that as well, otherwise, we
would have to wait until someone found out that info and posted it to the
site. (I'm not sure what the lists actually have on them, as I've not yet
been in a position to deal with Calvary for my own lines.) If someone has
images of stones, they could post their image to that record - similar to
the FindAGrave site. You could even post links directly from the record to
your genealogy page so that people can see how they inter-relate.

I will ask Calvary if they would assist us with this project once we're up
and running. It's POSSIBLE that they may be willing to work with us. They
may not, but if not, we can already have a backup plan to do our own data
entry. :)

OK, I'm getting back to work on the software part. :) I can get everything
started, but I don't have any data to enter. :) I'll need everyone else's
help for that. :)

FACT: I was told, about one year ago, by the gentleman in charge of Calvary
[name escapes me] that they were beginning to computerize then. It was
confirmed when I phoned there and spoke to Donna this past spring.

FACT: Headstones that were once placed at Calvary, and other NYC cemteries,
are no longer there. Calvary cannot always confirm IF a headstone was ever
purchased, OR is still there w/o sending someone out to look. We all
understand tha Calvary Cemtery is a huge place.

FACT: If your family does not have a headstone, a lawn mover can be run
right over the grass, not around it, not requiring a weed wacker. What are
we talking about for maintenance.

Does anyone know of any NYC cemetery, that actually physically cleans down
headstones annually, as part of perpetual care?

Let's get real here.

BTW...I am not venting. I purchased every possible interment list from
Calvary long ago.

Still skinnin' cats in September,
Barb
