Many of us have heard the story about Mary Todd Lincoln who was put in an
insane asylum after the assination of her husband President Abraham Lincoln.
I once watched a program on the history channel about her. According to
the
special it stated that her son using his political connections had his
mother put in an institution in order to get control of her money. She
remained there with her son going thru her fortune until her friends were
able to get her released. By then her son had gone thru most of her fortune
and she was indeed destitute. It's not an uncommon scenario when the "good
ole boy network" gets into action.

Wow! I didn't know about this one, Stephanie. Thanks for sharing, and yes
"the good ole boy" thingy is still alive and well, especially in the south,
and probably other places.

Makes me wonder why people think they have to or need to achieve and
maintain multibillion dollar empires . . . it can so easily cause corruption, and we
never know what the younger generation or siblings are thinking and
planning! In my case, it was/is step children, whom my mom has not raised. But they
are men . . . mom only had girls, and even at 88 years old . . . she still
prefers men over her daughters, and granddaughters, and these men, who are weal
thy, dentists, and have 2+ homes each, overtook my mom, and she "fell for
it", and today, we have to live with the memory, and she is still living. Oh,
my, oh, my, what a planet we live on!!!
