Hello all,
I am looking for information about the Fort Hamilton area of Brooklyn. My
father moved to the area from Manhattan around WWII when my grandfather went
to work for the Army Corps of Engineers. I believe my father may have gone
to Fort Hamilton High School and would have graduated in 1947-48. Can anyone
tell me where I can find the following things as I am not familiar with the
area:
1. city directories for Brooklyn from 1945-1950
2. Alumni information about Fort Hamilton High between 1945-1948
3. Information about those who lived and worked at Fort Hamilton.
My mother recalls that my father grew up in the area where the Verizano ( I
am probably misspelling that) Bridge is now. That my grandfather was a
civilian and the family lived in General's quarters on base. When my father
returned in the 70's, the area where he had lived was torn down to make way
for the bridge.
For any of you who may have lived in the area and attended Fort Hamilton
High during 1945-48, my father was John Thomas "Jack" McRedmond. He had an
older brother named Bill and my grandparents were William and Mary.
Any information is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
