Perhaps someone can explain what certain abbreviations mean, in NYC
Directories? Although I managed to searh the abbreviation list online, the two
that I need.

Example 1---
[surname] James (u. s. a.) home 27 State [1865 Brooklyn Directory
Question: What does "u. s. a." spaced & caps like this mean?

Example 2---
[surname] Mary E nurse 707 Jackson av r do
Question: What does it mean after Jackson Avenue?
