I don't know if the dates match up exactly, but according to a book by Elliot
Willensky called "When Brooklyn Was The World - 1920 - 1957", (pg. 32),
there was a holiday on the first Thursday in June. He called it Brooklyn
Day, and indicates that it was to commemorate the 1829 establishment of the
Brooklyn Sunday School Union, a Protestant organization. It was a day off
from school, with parades.
