Mary Ann Hoppe/Hopper m. Bartholomeus Schaats (b. Jan 26, bp. Feb 26,
1797, NYDRC; d. 1831). She m2. Jun 5, 1842, Albert Zabriskie Banta (b.
Nov24, 1798, bp. Dec 25, 1798 at Hackensack, d. Aug 31, 1854, NYC, bur On
the Green, Hackensack), widr of Sarah Ann Sayre (b. Aug 24, 1799,
Elizabethtown, NJ, d. Sep 6, 1839, Augusta, GA, dau of Calvin Sayre and
Mary Dickerson), son of Jacob C. Banta and Wyntje Zabriskie. This
explains why she was known as Grandma Banta to her grandchildren whose
grandfathe was Bartholomeus Schaets.

Who was this Mary Ann Hoppe? Was she a descendant of Andries Hoppe? Or
was she a descendant of one of the English Hoppers of NYC? Were her
parents John Hopper and Mary Stillwell? Who were John and Mary's
parents?
