Subject: Death Certificate

I have searched naturalization soundex, census records etc., and cannot
come across my g-grandfather James Bryant. He died at the address (as
shown on the copy of the card the funeral home has on him which I just
received) 61 Montgomery, New York. Does that mean New York City? He died
October 8, 1854 and is buried in Greenwood Cemetery in Brooklyn. I had
always thought that he had lived in Brooklyn but now I am wondering. As I
understand it there are no death records for Brooklyn in 1854 but there are
for Manhattan or New York City. Where would I write to try to get the
death certificate from the City??? Any ideas at all welcome with thanks.
Regards,
Gladys
