Laurie,

Did you know that the 1900 census has a soundex index where you can lookup by
head of household? The 1880, 1900 and 1920 censi were all indexed using a
code to account for pronounciation variations.

There is an explaination of the Soundex system as well as a Soundex 'machine'
to convert any name to soundex at the National Archives web site at
<www.nara.gov/genealogy>
