Hi Everyone!
I have hit a wall that I might be able to break but I am not totally
sure.
Here is my situation.
My Ggrandmother, Emma Hoffman was born Feb. 23, 1879 and supposedly
lived her life in NY according to her death certicate. My Grandmother's
(her daughters) birth certificate says Emma was born in Manhanttan, NY.
I have requested a search of the boros for her birth certicate and have
come up with nothing. A kind sole on this list checked for her when
they visited Chambers and found nothing. I found what I beleive is her
family on the 1880 Census living in Manhattan.
Now my very elderly greatAunt, Emma's daughter says both her parents
were born in NJ and they were married in NJ (I have not searched for the
marriage certicate yet)but I found her husband in NY unmarried in 1900.
This same elderly lady has given me many dates at different times which
don't agree with each other even.
Should I start searching NJ for her now? If so does anyone know if you
must request a search county by county or if there is another way? If
it is a county by county search, which ones are the counties closest to
NY for me to begin with? Or is their a better path to follow.
She died in 1922 so I can not access SS-5. I could not find her, her
mother or father on the NY 1900 soundex. I am currently awaiting the NJ
1900 soundex for Hoffman to see if she is there.
Any suggestions are welcome and appreciated.
Judi
