If Sylvester did indeed die within to city limits of NY City, you can
find his exact date of death from the NY City death indexes which are
available through 1965 on microfilm at a LDS (Mormon) Family History
Center. Or you can just request a copy of his death certificate from
the NY City Dept of Health. (If he died outside NY City limits you'll
be out $15 and out of luck.) Having the exact date of death will make
finding an obit much easier - you can just request same from the
Interlibrary Loan librarian at your local library. The death cert will
also list the undertaker; if still in business he may have more info
than an obit or funeral notice. Download the request form from:
