Has anyone else come across the use of columns 29, 30, 31, and 32 on the
head of Household line of the
1910, starting on line 1. Census form for Manhattan, ED 186 Ward 10 .
Line:1 Head
2: Wife
3: Daughter
4: "
5: Son
6: Brother
7: Sister-in-law
8: Brother
9: Sister
10: Boarder
11: "
12: "
13: "
14: "
Recording in:
Col 29 - "14" - I find to be the total occupants of Household
Col 30 - "9" - I find to be total family members including brothers,
brother-in-laws, sisters,
and sister-in laws.
Col 31 - "5" I find to be Boarders
Col 32 - contains an X. I don't have any idea what this was used for.
These are not the column headings.
On the line after the Parents and children:
Col 29 - "0"
Col 30 - "3" I find to be Brother, Sister-in-law, Sister
Col 31 - "7" I find to possibly be blood relatives of head of household
Col 32 - "X" ????????
line 8:
Col 29 "0"
Col 30 "0"
Col 31 "2"
Col 32 "8"
On line 12 Bracketing( lines 9-14)
Col 29 "0"
Col 30 "3"
Col 31 "7"
Col 32 " X"
This was for one building at 24 Allen St. and the occupants seem to have all
been related or soon to be.
