In Northampton, MA there is a treasure-trove of old books and
manuscripts, cemetery records, etc., which are not acid free and are
slowly desintegrating away...such at the Chapman Manuscript, a large
two volume, hand written genealogical manuscript of many major families
of the area. Contains branches of the families not even found in
Trumbull.

Many of these old books are so fragile, that they can only be handled
with special gloves and with special permission. The Genealogy Lady
Librarian there, Elise, has been trying to get a grant to be able to
copy and preserve these papers. It seems these grants are nonexistant.

If anyone has an idea where to get such a grant, please let me know, or

write to Mrs. Elise Feeley, Forbes Library, Northampton, MA. 01060.

Thanks. Sue Smith
