Cecil Woodham-Smith also wrote, "The Reason Why"( McGraw-Hill, 1953).
The book is primarily about the mismanagement of the Crimean War and the
British leaders who blundered/fought the war, but it has sections that
describe the conditions of the Irish who lived on the land that was owned
by these same "leaders" -- primarily the Third Earl of Lucan.

Now and then people on these lists remark about how apparently unrelated
items bring up geneological subjects. The Irish rock band "Black 47" is an
instance of this. The band's name is usually thought to be just another
crazy band name, but it refers to the bad times in 1847.
