Several thoughts occur, although these may be things you've already tried.
1) Have you searched NYC directories? If Catherine had her own household after
she was widowed, she would appear listed as Catherine Armstrong widow of George.
The date she appeared as a widow would help you establish George's death date.
2) Have you searched NYC probate records? If you find a will or Letter of
Administration that would also establish a death date.
3) Have you gotten the catalog of heirs from Woodlawn, to establish who bought
the lot where Catherine is buried? If she bought the lot then the date she did
so goes a long way toward establishing her widowhood.
4) You don't say when they married in Fermanagh. If you have pursued 1 & 2 &3 so
you are quite sure he didn't die in NYC, have you searched the Index to Deaths
in Ireland starting from one year before the date of birth of their last child?
Much of this index is on permanent loan at my local FHC(as are marriages - but I
assume you already have the marriage record), and I'd do a quick search for you
if you can narrow down the possible dates to about ten years.
Well, those are just a few ideas. You really need to let us know what you
have already tried, and provide some dates ie. marriage , birth of children,
etc. before someone can really advise you.
Good luck,
Joan
