Subject: [NYC] 1865 death certificate
Date: Mon, 01 May 2000 14:35:57 -0500
Hello,
I sent to the Municipal Archives for a death certificate for an 1865
death. I didn't receive a death certificate, however. I received what
looks like an index of deaths for certain days in Sept. in 1865. There are
two pages consisting of the names of about 60 people who died, their dates
of death, their ages, their residences, their places of birth, diseasea,
cemetaries, undertakers, and physicians. Both pages have the raised seal of
the Dept. of Records. My question, I guess, is whether or not they issued
death certificates in 1865 and if they did, would this recording of a death
mean that there should be a death certificate. There was no explanation
with the record. I'd appreciatie any information anyone has on this
subject. Thanks.
Judy
