Subject: [NYC] WILLS AND ADMINISTRATIONS

Hi All

Could SKnowledgableS please tell me whether it is possible that Letters of
Admnistration for a person deceased in 1816 were not applied for until 1826!
I have a death of a Sarah Elsworth in 1816, who seems to fit lots of
criteria for being my 4G grandmother - lots of coincidences, - but if it is
indeed she, her son did not apply for letters of administration until
February 1826. All the Document says is "Sarah Elsworth, late of the City of
New York, Widow, Deceased" - no date of death. How likely is a 10 year gap
between the two events? Can anyone confirm similar occurences? Is there any
other way you could suggest that I confirm the dates. The Directory
(Longworths 1816) of New York, mentions the death of Sarah Elsworth aged 62
and in 1817 the death of another Sarah Elsworth aged 87 on 3 Feb 1816.
Neither age fits my ancestor who we are fairly sure was born circa 1767
which would make her 49 in 1816. These two would have been born 1756 and
1729.

It's muddle so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Best wishes

John
