Ancestry appears to have done a little repair work on this database
since it was first put online. Initially the entry you show came
up only as "Thomas" - with no surname - and only if you did a search
for just "Thomas" or for the birthdate. You'd have to examine the
context to determine that the surname was in fact SULLIVAN. (Thomas
was down a ways in the list of SULLIVANs born that year, but the surname
appeared only with the first individual on the list.) Thankfully they've
now got that problem fixed.
