Patty,
Your instructions may work if somebody intends to order a film, but they
really don't help much if somebody wants to go straight to the census
images at Ancestry.com -- which is what I imagine many people would
prefer to do. There are no film numbers noticeable there (until you
have already pulled up an image) -- only Enumeration Districts (which
aren't on the index CD), Ward Numbers (which are on the index CD, but
there can be hundreds of ED's per Ward), sometimes A.D. numbers, but no
page numbers are visible until you actually open up a page from one of
the Enumeration Districts -- if you can ever find the right one to look
at...
Ordering films just doesn't work for me, and I imagine there are others
in the same boat. I had 6 films from the Canadian Census waiting for me
at my local Family History Center. I have so far only had one
opportunity to go there, didn't find what I was looking for, and
couldn't manage to get back there before the films were returned.
I'm going to give up on ordering films altogether (never have time to
view them while they're here -- countless times they get sent back
before I ever even get a chance to see them once), and just wait until
what I am looking for is available on CD or somewhere online that is
searchable in some way.
I found a few records this evening going from the 1910 HQ census index
for NYC to the Ancestry.com images, but it is VERY slow going.
