Thanks to a search by NY G & B, I just received confirmation that my
Grandmother Catherine Kreyling was Baptized after her birth Feb. 9, 1876 at
St Luke's German Evangelical Lutheran Church. The NYC Municipal Archives
never found her civil records. This search is an example of NYC German
research between 1864 & 1886. My GGrandparents were married in 1867 at the
First German Presbyterian Church on Rivington St. After that Church closed
1872 they also moved north in NYC to 492 7th Ave, where Johann Kreyling was
naturalized in Oct 1876. I used Yahoo to determine the closest Protestant
church's to that address, knowing that he is buried (after drowning in the
East River at 59th st July 13 1886) in Lutheran All Saints Cemetery Middle
Village indicated he had probably become a Lutheran. I guessed right on his
ultimate Church. I plan on visiting both St Luke's and the Cemetery, this
Sept!
I have just received 9 reels of NY Herald 1886 microfilms at my local
library. I hope to find the death/obit or drowning announcement on my
GGrandfather.
Thank you NY G & B!
Dick Webber
