Subject: [NYC] HELP! William Friederich/Frederick 1900 census
Date: Mon, 8 Sep 2003 20:46:30 EDT

Hello,
I'm hoping some kind soul will help me. I've been waiting ever so
patiently for Heritage Quest to complete their 1900 census, but when I just
now tried to do a search for that census, it says, "only accessible from your
affiliate library." Aaargh!
This is an important census for my family. In 1899 they sold the
family business near Washington Square, & my great-grandmother, Dorothea (Dora),
who married my great-grandfather, William, in 1885, died sometime before 1910
(when all the kids are living with relatives all over the country). I have
never seen her in a census, & this is the only one she could be in, if she's
still alive.
I have no idea where they were in NYC in 1900; I haven't seen any
city directories for that time. According to the 1890 city directory, William
was a druggist, & the family was living with his physician brother, John, at
73 Washington Sq. So., but I believe they may have moved from there as well in
1899.
If anyone could look him up for me, I would appreciate it. William
would've been around 37 in 1900, & both he & Dora were born in Germany. Some
of their children were Elsie, William, Gisela, & John. I should mention that
the last name can be spelled a myriad ways, but it was usually either
Friederich or Frederick (though it's Friedrich on their marriage certificate). In
return, I'd be willing to do look ups in the 1790 - 1820, 1860-70, 1890, 1910-20
censuses & the New York Times database.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Roxanne
