This is the UNION SPRING image and further down this email is the
Village of Cayuga image.

This is from a 1,600 DPI, 16 bit scan of the original negatives at the
National Archives.
The company that did the scan did a BAD job with BAD equipment and
lighting.
So I have tried to enhance the image the best that I can.
This is the center part of a larger image.
Note the dredge in the lake north of Silver Bridge. You can see a pipe
extending out from the barge depositing the spoils.
And note the spoils out in Cayuga Lake south of the bridge.
Also note the round water tower just north of the train station.
This photo predates Route 90. Lake street was then the main street.

The original scan of the negative of Union Springs is full of moire
patterns.
The scan of Cayuga is too bright in the middle and dark in a circular
ring around the outside of the image.
Another image near Union Springs is covered with fingerprints that look
like they may be growing mold.
All images show parallel line scratches.
All this points to the need to "properly" DIGITIZE these old negatives NOW!
Cayuga County should at the very least get full coverage of the couty in
a digital format.
These are in stereo pairs but at a minimum we should preserve every
other image so that we have full coverage.
The National Archives needs to do this soon before the independant
vendors ruin them more and the Cayuga County Historians office or County
Legislature should do this.
These 1938 photos are a tremendously valuable record of our historic,
natural, and environmental history.
