10/30/2002 - Elinor G. ''Ellie'' Anderson, 84, of 15 Owana Way, Lakewood, formerly of 15 Hazel Ave. and 2 Clyde Ave., died at 12:22 p.m. Sunday (Nov. 17, 2002) in the Heritage Park Health Care Center. A native of Jamestown and a Florida resident during the winter for 20 years, she was born Jan. 24, 1918, the daughter of George and Selma Ahlquist.
She was the wife of Burton M. Anderson, whom she married March 4, 1939, in the former First Methodist Church.
She was a 1935 graduate of Jamestown High School and attended the former Cortland State Teachers College. In her earlier years was a clerk in the hosiery department at the former Bigelow's Department Store.
She was a member of the Christ First United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher. She was also a member of the Pelican Bay Country Club, Daytona Beach, Fla., and Moonbrook Country Club since 1940, where she was active in the Woman's Association in golf, bowling and bridge. She and her husband won the Me and Mine golf couples tournament in 1963. She was also a former member of the board at WCA Hospital, past president of YWCA and a former Girl Scouts Leader.She was an avid golfer and bridge player.Surviving, besides her husband, are three daughters: Joan Janus of Biloxi, Miss., Barbara A. Lyons of Bemus Point and Nancy A. Belschner of Sagatuck, Mich.; a son, David B. Anderson of Jamestown; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by a brother, Edward L. ''Slim'' Johnson, on June 24, 2000.
A private service will be held on Wednesday at the convenience of the family. The Rev. Douglas M. Knopp, pastor of Christ First United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home.
