I too, have been trying to get my grandpa's birth certificate.. Thanks to
the gracious kind help of Cliff,, I have managed to find out where my grand
father died and did get his death certificate,, which states he was born in
Grand Rapids Michigan. Also on the 1900 census that he and his father are on
in Kinderhook NY,, it states that he was born in Grand Rapids Michigan,,
However, I did write to Michigan VR and they sent me back a nice letter
explaining there is no record of birth in the state of Michigan for my grand
father. He was born in 1885....
