After seeing this, I had to reply to this conversation!

You mean to tell me that NY charges a separate room rate for out of
state visitors? Am I just being naive, I have never heard of this and I
travel a lot! My husband usually pays the bill via a credit card, so I
never was aware of this. I have also heard of out of state license's for
fishing etc being more etc, but never a room. I never knew this to be true?
Why would an out of state person have to pay more for a room? Don't they
want visitor's?
