I understand the concern that one subscriber to this list has about
personal messages. Yes, part of a listserv is getting messages that are
not of interest to you, but when you start getting a series of messages
between two people talking about the specifics of their connection,
promising to call, mail, etc, it really goes beyond the purpose of the
list. When someone submits a query about a specific individual or
family, I respond to that person. If someone submits a query about
places, research facilities, etc, I would agree that a response to the
list itself might be useful. Discussions about the reservoirs, for
instance, I found to be very interesting.

Once you have made a specific connection about a specific individual or
family with a particular subscriber to the list, I would prefer that you
move the discussion off the list.

PS - Of course, I would point out that the number of messages on this
listserv compared to others is small. Still, as people catch on, it will
grow, so anything folks can do to make the traffic bearable would be most
welcome.
