What a pleasant surprise to read my mail this morning and find a message
about people I've known practically all my life! Albert and Lena Mills were
very close friends of my parents from the 1920s on. When I was young, their
family and mine visited each other regularly. They lived in Johnson City and
we lived in Apalachin. Their two sons are about the same age as my brother
and I. The older one, Robert (Bob) Mills, b. 27 Jul. 1927, married my
wife's first cousin, Bernice Groover on 11 Nov., 1950 (dau. of Dewey Groover
of Johnson City). They have 3 children: Ronald, b. 3 Feb. 1953; Deborah
Louise, b. 24 Jul. 1956 who m.(1) Joseph Wlostowski 7 Oct. 1974 and (2)
Howard Hyde on 4 June 1983; and Sharon Irene, b. 4 Dec. 1959 who m. Donald
William Edwards on 24 Jul. 1981. Bob and Bernice live in Endwell. Bob is
retired from New York Gas & Elec. after a long career with them. Donald
(Don), the younger son, b. ca. 1928-29 was the one who worked his whole
career at Van Cott's Jewelers in Binghamton. He never married, and he too is
now retired. I saw Bob and Bernice and Don recently at my mother's 90th
birthday party in Endwell. Albert died about 10-15 years ago, and Lena died
about 2-3 years ago. I'm not sure whether Ronald (Bob's son) is married and
has children, but I can find out if you're interested. Deborah (Mills)
(Wlostowski) Hyde has 3 children: Joseph Wlostowski, b. 9 Jan., 1976; Deanna
Lynn Hyde, b. 21 Dec. 1982, and Danielle Louise Hyde, b. 21 Sept. 1984.
Sharon (Mills) Edwards has two children: Donald William Edwards, Jr., b. 19
Jul. 1983, and Robert James Edwards, b. 9 June, 1986.
I happen to have this information because Bernice furnished it to my wife who
is working on the Groover family tree. As far as I know, Albert and Lena
never had a son named Harold. Possibly he was Albert's nephew. If you want
more information on this line of the Mills family, possibly Bob or Don could
help you out. Let me know, and I'll ask if it's OK for you to contact them.
I believe that my parents (Harmon and Lucille Seymour) first met the Mills
in Deposit. We lived there in about 1929-1932, at first on the Briggs farm
by the river (my Dad delivered milk for them), and later at my grandfather
Ziba's house in town. My brother and I started school there in 1932, but
soon thereafter, we moved to Apalachin. We attended elementary school in
Apalachin and high school at U-E in Endicott (class of '44). My Dad was
originally from Cannonsville (now under the reservoir) where his ancestors
had lived since ca. 1803 when William Seymour, Jr. came there from Newburgh,
Orange Co. and was one of that town's first settlers. There was a Seymour
Homestead on Sands Creek and another just across the bridge from Cannonsville
which is noted on some maps of the town as "W. Seymour," who was my g.g.
grandfather, Willet Seymour. His son, my g. grandfather, Alonzo also lived
on that Homestead. If your mother was very close friends with Lena Mills,
she probably knows my mother too. What is your mother's name? I'll ask her
is she remembers - although her memory isn't too good at 90 years of age.
Please e-mail me at "DCMOR"
Don Seymour.
