Subject: [NYDELAWA-L] Great New Gen. Magazine-they should write about Delaware County website
Date: Mon, 8 Nov 1999 17:52:54 EST
Hi everyone!
I bought the premiere issue of a great magazine today called "Family Tree
Magazine." Since this is the first issue, I thought that maybe if we all
wrote to them and told them how great the Delaware County website is that
hopefully they'll write an article about us!
The magazine helps you to "discover, preserve and celebrate your family's
history." Some of the articles this month (actually January 2000):
Coming to America - A story about our ancestors arriving at Ellis Island, and
it also talks about the Immigration Museum and the opening in 2000 of the
American Family Immigration History Center. I got pretty choked up several
times while reading this article. One quote reads, "Most dear to me are the
shoes my mother wore when she first set foot on the soil of America. You
must see them to appreciate the courage my parents had and the sacrifices
they made. My mother's shoes tell the whole story."

I know that I sound like an advertisement for the magazine, but I just
happened to buy it and I love it. They ask for input several times
throughout the magazine, and I really do think we should all write about our
experiences on our Delaware County website and try to get them to include an
article. I unfortunately had to put my genealogy research on hold for the
last six months or so, but I still checked in every day on the Delaware
County listserve. I spent a lot of time this last weekend researching (I'm
sure the magazine got me motivated!), and I visited dozens of other sites,
and none of them came close to our site. Many people have helped me
personally with my research, and when I think about how everyone came
together this summer in Delaware County, and the extraordinary support from
the County Clerk's Office and the Historical Society, I know that we have
something really special. I think all of these wonderful, helpful people
deserve to get some national attention!
