Series Message #9: The last four sections of the Table of Contents page
are actually links out to sites exterior to the Delaware website.

COUNTIES ABUTTING DELAWARE COUNTY:
Since our Delaware County ancestors may have hopped back and forth and
lived at times in a neighboring county, it would be a good idea to check
out each of these websites: "Tracing your Roots in Greene County", and
the NYGenWeb sites for Otsego, Chenango, Broome, Schoharie,
Ulster/Greene, and Sullivan.

OTHER WEBSITES WITH DELAWARE COUNTY INFORMATION:
This links to an index page where you will find individual websites
devoted in some way to Delaware County, links regarding local and US
newspapers, the NYS Historical Association, NYS Archives, and the Public
Libraries of Delaware County, plus others. Check all out - they are a
great source of information.

DATA SPANNING MANY NEW YORK STATE COUNTIES:
This is a link to NY State Prison Records - 1819-1823 sitting at the
USGenWeb Archives Project. This was contributed by Linda Ogborn.

HELPFUL GENEALOGY SITES ON THE INTERNET:
Last of all, I have included a few links for those of you just starting
this hobby of genealogy. Several ‘How-To" sites, the RAND Genealogy Club
site that has links out to a lot of good information, a link to all the
Genealogy Mailing Lists hosted by Rootsweb, and the Social Security
Index at Rootsweb can be found here.

-------------------------------------

Note: Just this week I moved the link "Rootsweb Resource Page for
Delaware County" up to the Queries section on the Table of Contents
page. Here you will find GenConnect Boards where you can post your
Queries, Wills, Bios, Deeds, Pensions, Obits, and Bible Records. They
then can be reached through the Rootsweb Resource Page, will be
searchable, but will not appear on the Delaware County website.

This is the last message in this Informational Series. I think one of
the most important things to do when using the Delaware website, is to
review what materials are online by using the Table of Contents page. My
system of marking additions to the site, is to use a ‘NEW’ icon for
newly submitted data, and an ‘UPDATED’ icon for categories that have had
new materials added to them. Along with the icons, are the dates of
addition. The icons stay on for the month and are deleted soon after the
new month begins. It proves to be an easy way for those who check out
the site daily to see at a glance what is new and updated on the
website.

Another thing I might mention here - When you post a Query to the LIST,
if you want me to post it also to the Query Page of the website, then cc
it to me. Otherwise, it will appear only on the LIST.

A reminder when using the Search Engine - names in the old records may
have been spelled differently from what you know an ancestor's name to
be. Therefore, try various spellings when you run a search . I know my
surname of PERSONS turns up in the old records as ‘Pierson, Piersons,
Pearson, Pearsons, Parsons, Person, etc. etc. Also, imagine the results
you get when searching for ‘persons’ …..

As many of you ‘old-timers’ on this LIST know, both the LIST and the
Delaware website is very active. The site is updated several times a
week, year-round. The organization of the materials on the site is
continually refined in hopes of keeping it ‘user friendly’. If you
should find links that aren't working, or email addresses that bounce,
please contact me.

That's all for now. Enjoy!
