Hi Daryl,

Myself and some others are in the process of trying to find out the
same thing. One of the persons that I'm working on this topic,
contacted Senator Tom Libous. What happened to "our" cemetery was
that the owners of the farm didn't want the cemetery on their property
anymore (like its so easy to move a cemetery) they contacted the
historical society, who apparently removed the stones and they are now
in Cooperstown. We are now awaiting confirmation of this.

Tom Libous said that when a cemetery is abandoned, it still belongs to
the plot owners or a cemetery association can take it over. One of my
questions is who is the plot owner - the land owner? Or a descendant
of the deceased? This is his direct quote "The Department of States
Division of Cemeteries advise that in accordance with &1510(I) of the
Not-for-Profit Corporation Law, the Historical Society has only
jurisdiction to remove the stones after receiving written consent from
the burial plot's owner, decendant or from the incorporated cemetery
association."

I would try contacting the senator/congressman for that particular
county.

Good Luck,
Rene'

the site for pasturing cows, all but one of the headstones are gone.

nothing protecting this ancestral site.

appropriate folks to try to preserve what's left?
